Global Engagement Through Stainless Steel: The Nickel Institute, IMOA, and Indian Partners Join Forces

Published 17 April 2025

In recent years, The Nickel Institute, in collaboration with the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA), has made significant strides in global knowledge-sharing by hosting a series of impactful webinars with the Indian Institute of Welding – Mumbai branch (IIW-Mumbai). These webinars have successfully reached a global audience, becoming a hub for exchanging expertise on proper welding of stainless steels and nickel alloys. The latest series of webinars (4 completed, 2 more to come in May and June) focusing on practical aspects, have drawn in an impressive participation—each attracting nearly 600 registrations and engaging approximately 250 active participants from over 43 countries. This global turnout underscores the growing interest in stainless steel for critical applications and the importance of such platforms for disseminating technical knowledge across borders.Building on this momentum, the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA), another key partner in India, has taken a significant step to further strengthen the stainless steel ecosystem. On March 6, 2025, ISSDA formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Welding (IIW), the national body encompassing all regional chapters of IIW. This strategic collaboration between ISSDA and IIW is focused on the mutual design, planning, and promotion of stainless steels across industries. The agreement marks a milestone in fostering deeper industry-academia cooperation, promoting innovation, and enhancing the application of stainless steel in infrastructure, transportation, manufacturing, and beyond.

With these collaborative efforts, the stainless steel community continues to build bridges—locally and globally—ensuring that professionals and industries alike benefit from shared knowledge, technical advancement, and sustainable practices.
